Dönnhoff
Recently, I visited Sascha Schömel at the Dönnhoff estate in Oberhausen, Nahe. After an extensive tour of the winery, we tasted through a wide range of wines in detail. Here are my collected notes.
Riesling trocken 2025
An estate Riesling with a remarkable sense of seriousness. Racy acidity, firm phenolic grip and plenty of substance give it far more structure than one might expect at this level. Taut, invigorating and refreshingly uncompromising. It immediately makes you reach for another sip.
Recommended for: Anyone looking for precision, grip and character even in an estate-level Riesling.
Best enjoyed: Young and fresh over the next three to five years, either as an aperitif or alongside light summer dishes.
